Business Process and Systems Modelling

Models of requirements, business processes and systems interactions try to ensure that everything has been considered and that it all fits together consistently. Most recipients of a functional specification, or other requirements document, will skim over pages of text but a summary diagram can be reviewed and checked that it just looks right by business and technical readers alike.

Modelling is an iterative process, starting at a high level then drilling down into the data-level detail, often resulting in several layers of diagrams which are used by different stakeholders.
